Six State Kalman Filtering for LEO Microsatellite Attitude Determination

چکیده
Abstract— The attitude determination and control subsystem (ADCS) requirement of payload on the Algerian Satellite (Alsat-1) is stringent enough to demand some type of data processing in order to meet attitude determination requirements. Two vector magnetometers and four dual sun sensors are carried in order to determine the attitude. This paper describes the various steps of the design and the implementation of the reduced model of the extended Kalman filter (6-state EKF) for small Euler angles on the Alsat-1. For the 6state filter, the state vector defines not only the attitude of the satellite, but also the rates at which the attitude is changing. This paper examines the six state Kalman filter from a theoretical standpoint before examining practical implementation.

Real Time Calibration of Strap-down Three-Axis-Magnetometer for Attitude Estimation
Three-axis-magnetometers (TAMs) are widely utilized as a key component of attitude determination subsystems and as such are considered the corner stone of navigation for low Earth orbiting (LEO) space systems. Precise geomagnetic-based navigation demands accurate calibration of the magnetometers. In this regard, a complete online calibration process of TAM is developed in the current research t...

A control system is proposed for a low Earth orbit gravity gradient stabilised microsatellite using Z wheel. The microsatellite is 3-axis stabilized using a yaw reaction wheel, with dual redundant 3-axis magnetorquers. Two vector magnetometers and four dual sun sensors are carried in order to determine the full attitude. The attitude was estimated using an Euler angles (small libration version)...

متن کاملSpacecraft Attitude Determination with Sun Sensors, Horizon Sensors and Gyros: Comparison of Steady-State Kalman Filter and Extended Kalman Filter
Attitude determination, along with attitude control, is critical to functioning of every space mission. In this paper, we investigate and compare, through simulation, the application of two autonomous sequential attitude estimation algorithms, adopted from the literature, for attitude determination using attitude sensors (sun sensor and horizon sensors) and rate-integrating gyros. The two algor...
متن کاملA Comparison between Numerical Differentiation and Kalman Filtering for a Leo Satellite Velocity Determination
The kinematic orbit is a time series of position vectors generally obtained from GPS observations. Velocity vector is required for satellite gravimetry application. It cannot directly be observed and should be numerically determined from position vectors. Numerical differentiation is usually employed for a satellite’s velocity, and acceleration determination. However, noise amplification is the...
